Description: Upright, heavily branched, suckering shrub with smooth striped bark forming a solid aggregate of brush; sometimes wide-spreading reaching 10' to 15' in height, usually taller than wide at maturity. Fall color pale, dull yellow. Flowers greenish-white, bell-shaped, borne in nodding 1 1/2" to 2" long panicles, in April and May; abundant. Fruit a 3-lobed, 1" to 1 1/2" long, inflated capsule, pale green changing to light brown, effective in September.
